Course Content

Essential basics, for both pedagogy and therapy, are taught in seminars during the four-year basic training. Work placements and internships at Waldorf schools and kindergartens are an integral part of the programme and provide a practical introduction to professional implementation.

The First Year

During the first few months agility is trained and the sense for language and music is sharpened. Specifically, rod exercises help train physical movement, while geometric forms train one's movement in space.

Through the expressive quality of language, in speech eurythmy, the object is to represent inner experiences. In tone eurythmy the different possibilities of representing melody, rhythm and bar, as well as major and minor scales are practiced.

We work with the eurythmy figures designed by Rudolf Steiner. The characteristic movements of elementary beings, which will be applied for example in fairy tales, and the planetary movements and zodiac gestures are practiced. In tone eurythmy the students learn about polyphony, dynamic differentiation and the transformation of modulation and cadence into forms of movement. Each student will give a lecture titled "What is eurythmy?"

The polyphonic, the dynamic and the orchestral (instruments) element are deepened in tone eurythmy.

Each student writes a diploma thesis on a specific eurythmy topic which is concluded with a presentation and practical demonstration. The training ends with a final eurythmy performance, which is then brought on tour and shown at various locations.
