Training

The Eurythmy Training

The training can be completed in a four-year fulltime program. It concludes with a diploma recognised by the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. This diploma opens up the possibility of further training in pedagogy (eurythmy teacher at a Waldorf school), therapy (eurythmy therapist) or art (eurythmy stage performer). Essential basics, for both pedagogy and therapy, are taught in seminars during the four-year basic training.

In Addition to Eurythmy lessons...

During the entire training period, in addition to speech and tone eurythmy, speech formation (the art of recitation), metrics and poetics, choral singing, music theory and anthroposophy are taught. A range of further subjects is spread over the four years of training: Literary History, Goetheanism, Aesthetics, Painting, Form Drawing, Anatomy, General Anthropology and others.

The course begins each year on the 29th of September. Lessons will be given from Monday to Friday from 8:30am until 5:00pm, except Wednesday afternoons, which are free.

The school year is divided into trimesters, each of which ends with an artistic performance.

What is unique about the Berlin Eurythmy School?

At the beginning of our artistic training, in addition to speech and tone eurythmy, a special emphasis is placed on the thorough development of rod exercises, pedagogical exercises and the so-called geometric forms (Auftakte). These skills will become fundamental as they unfold with the students changing constitution. Agility, and body and space awarness are also practised.

The development of special subjects plays an important role in our program. Examples are: foreign language eurythmy, representation of elementary beings, Lucifer-Ahriman, soul forces, and texts from old cultural epochs. These subjects are thaught throughout the training and performed during the end of the trimester performance. They become a rich and valuable resource for later professional work.

English speech eurythmy is an essential part of the diploma program.

Course content

The First Year

During the first few months agility is trained and the sense for language and music is sharpened. Specifically, rod exercises help train physical movement, while geometric forms train one's movement in space.

Through the expressive quality of language, in speech eurythmy, the object is to represent inner experiences. In tone eurythmy the different possibilities of representing melody, rhythm and bar, as well as major and minor scales are practiced.

In order to work as an eurythmy teacher or theraputic eurythmist, following the four-year basic training (at all euythmy schools) an additional one-year in-depth study or a part-time (two-year) study (Bachelor's/Master's) must be completed. Here are some possibilities for further eurythmie education:

Pedagogy:

  • Part-time Bachelor's in Leiden (Netherlands).
